bio_based_flooring_smartstrand_01One of the most important decisions when choosing your carpet is the fiber. There are two predominate carpet fibers, Nylon and Polyester. There are many differences between the two fibers, so we are going to give you the facts about Nylon vs. Polyester.

Polyester Carpet

There are many benefits to purchasing a polyester carpet. Polyester is often suggested for buyers who have pets or young children because of the constant spills. Polyester carpet is fairly easy to clean, and does not stain as easily as some other fibers. Obviously, just like with anything, certain things will stain polyester. Any oil based products, such as pen ink, will leave a stain, and 9 times out of 10 it will not come out.

Polyester fiber is often much less expensive than a nylon fiber, which in turn gives you the ability to purchase a much fluffier, softer carpet for the same price as a less luxurious nylon carpet. The carpet color or style is something people generally get tired of after several years as the colors and styles change, so many choose to get the polyester carpet so that they have the option to affordably change it out more often.

Nylon Carpet

The benefit if purchasing nylon fiber carpet is that it is significantly more durable, it goes with the saying- “you get what you pay for”. Though polyester does generally clean easier, it also wears out easier. On the other hand, when nylon looks worn out, you will generally find that after getting it thoroughly cleaned that it will actually look much newer.

Just like with any industry, the carpet and flooring industry is constantly changing and improving. Nylon carpet is generally a long term option with good quality, and polyester carpet is a more affordable option to suit the customer who wants change their carpet more frequently.
